Myofascial Release – This is a specialised form of manual therapy which effectively addresses restrictions in the Myofascial system.
The fascia is a network of connective tissue that surrounds and runs through every part of the body. Its main function is to provide support and tensegrity to the body by connecting bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, organs and blood vessels – in fact, every part of the body!
It is also thought to have an important role in communication of information due to the high density of nerve endings providing a whole body sensory network. Therefore a healthy and functional fascial system is essential for overall health and wellbeing.
If fascia becomes restricted through trauma or abnormal movement patterns it will cause pain and further restrict movement. Because of the extensive nature of the fascial network, restrictions in one area of the body will negatively impact the function of another.
By applying a slow sustained stretch or compression in a particular area, your practitioner will be able to facilitate the release of fascial restrictions thereby improving comfort and range of movement to the animals whole body.
